For Geometry, we will be using the Geometry book from McDougal Littell. We will be covering a wide range of topics this year and below is the list we will cover:
Unit 1: Points, Lines and planes
Chapter 1: Essentials of Geometry-Identifying points, lines and planes, measure and classify angles, angle pair relationships,
and classify polygons.
Chapter 2: Reasoning and Proof- inductive and deductive reasoning, postulates, reasoning using algebra properties, and prove
statements about segments and angles.
Chapter 3: Parallel and Perpendicular Lines- identify pairs of lines and angles, prove lines are parallel, find and use slope of
lines, write and graph equations of lines and prove theorems about perpendicular lines.
Unit 2: Triangles
Chapter 4: Congruent Triangles- Apply triangle sum properties, Prove triangles are congruent by SSS, SAS, HL, ASA or AAS,
use isosceles and equilateral triangle and perform congruent transformations.
Chapter 5: Relationships within Triangles- Midsegment theorem and coordinate proof, perpendicular bisectors, angle
bisectors, medians, Altitudes, inequalities in triangles, inequalities in two triangles and indirect
proof.
Chapter 6: Similarity- Ratios, proportions, geometric mean, use proportions to solve geometry problems, use similar polygons,
prove triangles are similar by AA, SSS and SAS, use proportionality theorems and perform
similarity transformations.
Unit 3: Figures in the Planes
Chapter 7: Right Triangles and Trigonometry- Pythagorean Theorem, converse theorem, similar right triangles, special right
triangles, tangent ratio, sine and cosine.
Chapter 8: Quadrilaterals- Angle measures in polygons, parallelograms, rhombuses, rectangles, squares trapezoids, kites and
special quadrilaterals.
Chapter 9: Properties of Transformations- vectors, translate figures, matrices, reflections, rotations, symmetry and dilations.
Unit 4: Circles and Measurement
Chapter 10: Properties of Circles- properties of tangents, arc measures, properties of chords, inscribed angles and polygons,
segment lengths in circles, and write and graph equations of circles.
Chapter 11: Measuring Length and Area- Areas of triangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, rhombuses and kites, perimeter and
area of similar figures, circumference and arc length, areas of circles and sectors.
Chapter 12: Surface Area and Volume of Solids- surface area and volume of prisms, cylinders, pyramids, cones and spheres.
